DESCRIPTION

Pulled from Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus S/S 2023 collection, Rei Kawakubo presents her reimagined take on court jesters. With whimsical stripes and checker prints, balloon trousers, and both spiked and flared hems, the collection reflects the cartoonish, yet subtly unnerving nature of the dated occupation from the Middle Ages. “Often they would be close advisors of the king. Coming from a different world with original ways of thinking, they would have the right to speak freely and give honest insights and advice,” Kawakubo noted during the show. This collection illustrates a connection between existing, popular cultures with obsolete cultures, comparing jester costumage to punk as she names the line “Another Kind of Punk”.
